How to Style a Modern Farmhouse Entryway

The entryway is the first thing people see when they walk into your home. It is the place you say your most excited hellos and the most undesired goodbyes. It is where friends and family drop jackets, backpacks, and shoes before making their way into your home to make memories.

I knew when styling my modern farmhouse entryway that I needed it to be practical and comfortable, but also with a modern farmhouse style! There are four practical pieces I focused on:

1. Bench for sitting

2. Crock for umbrellas

3. Hooks for backpacks and jackets

4. Lighting

1. Bench for sitting | One of my favorite places to shop is Decor Steals! I can always find modern farmhouse furniture pieces and home decor for an affordable price! They have items that are today’s steals, steal it box, what’s trending, must haves, and our favorites. The items come and go so you have to act fast! I jumped on this white chippy cottage bench when I saw it! I added some pillows from Target and an old jug I found at an antique store and topped it off with some dried flowers from my wedding. The cottage bench is right by my front door so friends and family can take their shoes off and on in a comfortable way. Any wooden bench would work great here!

2. Crock for umbrellas | I feel like it must rain or snow at least once a week in Minnesota all year round! I knew I had to have a spot in the entryway for my family and friends to put their umbrellas up while visiting! It is a great way for the floor to not get wet from rain or snow and gets them out of the way. I found an old ceramic crock and wooden bed frame poles from an antique store. If you search around at your local antique store, these pieces are very easy to find and very affordable! You could even put actual umbrellas in there all the time for easy access!

3. Hooks for backpacks and jackets | When we moved into our home, the entryway wall had the wainscoting and hooks already, and it was an ingenious idea. They get used all the time when we have family and friends over, and even for our everyday jackets to grab while heading out the door! These hooks can be bought easily from any Home Depot or another home improvement store. Very budget-friendly and makes the entryway very practical. Our “drop zone” is always clutter-free because of these hooks!

4. Lighting | Before we had our son, I had a “honey to-do list” a mile long. One of those items was to add lighting in the entryway that could be left on all night! This way, we could get up in the middle of the night and have some light on so we could get around in our 3:00 am new parent exhaustion. I initially wanted them hardwired in, but it was way too much money, so we got creative and only spent $20 getting these bad boys up there and lit all night! I will save that for another post soon!

Where to buy these items:

Hooks: Home Depot

Bench: Decor Steals

Wreath: Wreath

Pillows: Target

Crock and Poles: Local antique store

Sconces:  Wayfair
