How to Use Scrap Metal as Modern Farmhouse Decor

The best type of home decor is free home decor of course! That’s why this next budget-friendly home decor how-to is about using scrap metal as modern farmhouse decor. Scrap metal is so versatile and can be easily obtained or purchased at a budget-friendly price!

Aesthetic | When metal is added to modern farmhouse decor, such as woods and chippy whites, it gives an industrial vibe that lies heavier on the modern and less on the farmhouse, but does not take away from the modern farmhouse style. I am all about textures when it comes to styling, and these industrial metal pieces are always the missing piece. Your salvaged metal can be in a bowl, on a stack of books, or even resting with something chippy white! There is no wrong way to use salvaged metal pieces.

Budget-Friendly | There are two ways in which to obtain scrap metal or look-a-like scrap metal decor pieces: a salvage yard and online stores.

  1. Salvage Yard | Buying scrap metal from a salvage yard is the most budget-friendly. There is one a few hours north of where I live that has scrap metal pieces. An antique store also carries these types of pieces at a budget-friendly price. The metal pieces I have came from my papas workshop!
  2. Online Stores | One of my favorite metal pieces is my chain links that sit in a white textured bowl. I love the look of wooden chain links as well, which can be found at Katrina and Co and Antique Farm House. Just search “chain link” and you’ll see a few budget-friendly options for wooden links. Even Amazon has great wooden chain links, such as this one! Etsy also has great metal pieces, like nails and bolts that are rusty and give the perfect industrial modern farmhouse vibe.

Where to buy these items:

Chain Links:  Katrina and Co. and Amazon and Antique Farm House

Bolts and Nails:  Etsy and Etsy
