Before my son was born, one of the things I quickly realized was that his closet was not built in a functional way. It was simply a clothing rack and a shelf on top. I was quickly accumulating clothes, hats, and shoes and had no idea how to store them all! Target came to the rescue in my attempt to create a functional nursery closet! There were a few main pieces I purchased that allowed his closet to look bigger and store all of his things!
1. Hat Rack | Hats are a must in our family, especially on game day! One of the first things I bought our son was an Ole Miss hat, a Polo hat, and a Cowboys hat to match me, and a Vikings hat to match his daddy! So when I was searching through Target and found this Hearth and Hand peg rack I knew it was perfect for all of his hats! It also works great for his sunglasses. He is definitely game day ready now!
2. Storage for Clothes | Having space to store his shirts and jackets were fine on the wooden clothing rack that was already in the closet, but there was nowhere for his jammies and pants to go. It would have been super cluttered and expensive to try to hang everything! I found these storage cubbies at Target and they fit perfectly in his closet. I bought two of them and simply adhered them to each other. The white baskets are from Threshold at Target, but they seem to no longer be made. These baskets from Amazon look similar and are the right size. I then bought the cubed Threshold baskets from Target for the bottom row. I have his clothes separated by sizes and quickly pack away the sizes we do not use anymore to prevent any confusion when searching for clean jammies in the middle of the night!
3. Storage for Blankets and Stuffed Animals | Stuffed animals and blankets are a hot commodity at baby showers and I needed big baskets to be able to store all of these! Once he gets a little older I will put the storage bin with his stuffed animals somewhere near his crib so he can play with them, but for now, they are up at the top! The third basket is empty for now, but I am sure at some point it will be used for something else that I did not think of that we need. These baskets came from Home Goods but they are similar to those from Amazon.
4. Clothing Size Dividers | Initially I did not have the clothes separated so distinctly by size. The clothes were separated, but it was hard to find where one size ended and one started. When I found these budget-friendly size dividers on Amazon I jumped quickly on them. They are simple but so necessary!
5. Pacifier and Pacifier Clip Storage | There are pacifiers everywhere in our house. There are some in the kitchen, some in his diaper bag, our room, and most definitely his room. To keep them organized but easily accessible, I just wash them and throw them in this smaller basket right in his closet. I also found a simple jar from Target to hold his pacifier clips.
6. Shoe Tray | Storing his shoes was the most difficult for me to figure out and something I am sure will change once his shoes get bigger. For now, they are simply sitting on a wooden tray I found at Home Goods.
I am so glad I was able to find a practical way to store all of his clothes and keep them organized. Even though some storage spaces might be small, there are always ways to enhance the space. One of the main questions you must ask yourself is what you feel is most necessary to have access to quickly and then you can find a way to make it function in an organized way. What was important to me was to have quick access to pacifiers and clothes separated by size with minimum hanger purchases. I love how it turned out!
